Finding God's Will

This is the second greatest question people will ask; "what does God want me to do about..." dating, getting married, family issues, career choices, financial issues, and so on. The question is asking what God's Will is for life's situations.  How do we know what God wants us to do?  Surprisingly the answer is quite simple and has already been declared to you through scripture.

First and foremost of all things in finding Gods Will is: Matt. 22:37-39; Mark 12:29-31

Love God with everything in life and love your neighbor in every aspect of life.  If the decision and choice conflicts with this simple statement from Jesus, it is NOT God's will for you.  Life is not about YOU.  It is about God and serving him by serving others.  The basis for any decision that is best, is starting with seeking God's desires and not our own (Matthew 10:39).  This then puts us in the right frame of mind and points us in the right seeking direction.  The question then becomes:

What decision is most loving to God and others?

This question may not directly give you the answer your seeking but it gets you and your heart ready for the truth that follows.

Proverbs 3:5-6

We need to make the absolute decision to force ourselves to trust God.  Even if we do not know the exact steps to take and what exactly to do; we need to accept that he does and he will guide us even if we do not understand or see it YET.  This requires us to absolutely submit to what ever God's will may be and sacrifice ourselves for his sake (Romans 12:1-2).

God Speaks Through Others

God makes it clear in scripture that The Holy Spirit speaks through other people.  In our seeking God's will, we need to seek godly council of others whom trust and know God (Proverbs 11:14).  This is part of our edification as well.

Pay Attention!

God has made each of us in unique ways so we can be effective in His use.  We need to recognize our God given gifts and strengths.  He has given what we are good at for his use; thus for his will (1 Peter 4:10)

PRAY!

When we shut up and let God lead, even in prayer, our minds focus on Him and thus we can see and acknowledge what the Holy Spirit has been saying to us all along.  Meditate on God's Word and listen for his voice in prayer (not exactly and audible voice but he can speak in the implanted ideas) all of which brings the glory all on Him because if it does not bring glory to God alone, it is you and your thoughts and not his. His spirit will always bring you back to him and his Will (John 10:27).

When Focused ONLY on Him

When our mind is focused completely on him and his desires, we then desire what he desires.  The new nature in us is in union with his spirit and we allow our conscious to declare God's Will (Psalms 37:4-5).  Our heart (in the spirit) is in tune with God's heart and we can hear him more clearly.

God is The Painter of our lives

God, in his supernatural wisdom and will, cause events to happen that lead us to the point to where we are at not.  We need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture and open our eyes to what God has already done.  We need to analyze our circumstances.  Acts 16:6-10 is proof of this.  While we some times just see a brush stroke, we fail to see the whole masterpiece.

The Unknown Future

The unknown future forces us to trust God and have faith in God's Will and His end result.  Thus, even as we seek a decision for here and now, God ultimately leads us closer to him for all eternity.  Much like the painting analogy, we need to focus on God's bigger picture for his Glory and not for a temporary earthly focused solution (Ephesians 5:17).

The Decision

After all this, we still need to make a choice.  By trusting God and having faith that all he has already ordained we can be confident in a faithfully made decision that had God's Glory first and foremost and is the desired end result.   By faith we make a decision in the spirit which God will ordain to be because our desire is then also God's desire.
